Thames Water’s new ‘human poo powered’ heat pump gets the go ahead in Kingston upon Thames.

2,000 homes in the Cambridge Road estate in Kingston, will use the heat from human waste produced in the Thames Water sewage treatment plant nearby to heat their homes. Using the warm water that is produced in the treatment of sewage process to power water source heat pumps plants that will then transfer the hot water to individual homes.

This groundbreaking scheme is the first in England and really show us that some local governments are thinking outside the box about climate change and what they can do to help fight against it. ‘By using renewable poo-powered heating in place of fossil fuel gas, the scheme could save 105,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over 30 years’ Thames Water.

I so hope that this is the first of many ideas like this.
