Coca-Cola is to trial new paper based bottles.

One of the World’s biggest plastic polluters Coca-Cola is to trial new paper based bottles.

It’s great to hear that Coca-Cola is to trial paper based bottles. The bottles will have a paper outer shell but will still have a plastic lining and bottle cap made of recycled polyethene terephthalate (PET). This is recycled plastic that can also be easily recycled.

Polyethene terephthalate still take 450 years to decompose in landfill sites so although it’s a grand statement by Coca-Cola to start thinking about reducing their huge plastic footprint on the worlds environment, last year it was 2.9 million tonnes, it needs to go much further. For a company that makes that much money there are so many options out there.
